YOUTHOPIA WITH ELAHA

The Struggle of LGBTQ Asians in The West

On Friday, 26th June United States passed the marriage equality law which means homosexual couples have the right to get married and build a family together. On Saturday, 27th June London witnessed one of the biggest gay pride parade.

Supporters all over the country came together to say No to homophobia! On the other hand, there are still many individuals in Afghanistan that are not out about their sexual orientation yet fearing their life living in an extremely homophobic environment. On this episode of Youthopia I am interviewing Laila (Pseudonym) from the States.

Laila is a young Afghan woman raised in America but very much linked to her Afghan roots and religion, she is also an LGBT rights activist and identifies as Queer. We are discussing the challenges she faced and how the homophobic mentality can be challenged in our society.
