Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in their South Asian Football Federation cup Championship encounter played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, India last evening.

Sri Lanka scored the first goal of the game when Nipuna Bandara netted the one and only goal in the 16th minute but Lankans failed to maintain their flow continuously.

For Afghanistan, Sanjar Ahmed scored two goals and Ata M Yameer scored the third goal.

Sri Lanka will meet India in their third appearance tomorrow.

Sri Lanka registered the first victory of the SAFF Championship when they outplayed Bhutan by 3-0 on Saturday.

Afghanistan is at the 184th slot in the world ranking and Sri Lanka is ranked at 177.
